1. Purpose
These Terms of Service govern access to and use of Hanglow, a service operated by Shinzoer (“we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms set out the rights, obligations, responsibilities, and conditions that apply between Hanglow and users of the Service.
2. Nature of the Service
Hanglow is a cultural, educational, and entertainment web service that provides Korean slang, meme words, internet-culture expressions, cultural context, word cards, examples, origin notes, romanization, categories, tone, region, spiciness/sensitivity labels, Word of the Day, and AI-assisted/editorial images.
The Content is provided as a reference for understanding Korean internet culture and real usage context. It is not legal, medical, financial, psychological, political, educational, or other professional advice. The meaning, nuance, and sensitivity of slang and memes may change depending on time, region, community, and platform.
3. Public Browsing and Account Features
Most Content on the Service can be browsed without an account. We operate basic reading, search, word detail pages, Word of the Day, and public catalog pages without requiring sign-in.
Some features, such as likes, saved words, account pages, future quiz scores, streaks, or personalization, may require sign-in.
We may explain why sign-in is needed when you try to use an account-based feature.
4. Sign-Up and Sign-In
Users may create an account using the methods provided by the Service. We may provide Google sign-in and email sign-in through third-party authentication providers such as Clerk.
You are responsible for keeping your account and sign-in methods secure. If you suspect unauthorized use of your account, you should contact us. We are not responsible for losses caused by your failure to secure your account, unless caused by our willful misconduct or gross negligence.
5. Account Age Eligibility
Public Content may be browsed without an account.
Account creation is available only to Users who are at least 14 years old if they reside in South Korea, or at least 16 years old if they reside outside South Korea.
Before account creation, we may ask Users to confirm age eligibility, accept these Terms, and acknowledge or consent to the Privacy Policy. We may use a self-confirmation flow without requiring date of birth.
If we learn that an account was created or used by a User who does not meet the age requirement, we may restrict or delete the account or limit access to account-based features. A parent or legal guardian may request deletion of the account or personal information of a User who does not meet the age requirement.
The Service is not directed to children under 14.
6. User Obligations
Users must not:
- Use another person’s account, authentication information, or personal information without permission
- Create an account using false information or someone else’s information
- Interfere with the normal operation of the Service
- Use automated tools, bots, scrapers, or crawlers to excessively collect Content or data
- Copy, distribute, sell, resell, database, or use Service Content to build a competing service without authorization
- Infringe our or any third party’s intellectual property, reputation, privacy, personal information, or other rights
- Transmit or distribute illegal information, malware, spam, phishing, fraud, hateful, discriminatory, or violent content
- Manipulate ads, affiliate links, referral codes, analytics events, or share counts
- Impersonate Hanglow, 한글로, Glowy, or use our brand assets as official assets of another product, service, account, or community
- Violate applicable law or these Terms
7. Content and Sensitive Expressions
The Service may cover vulgar, satirical, political, social, sexual, aggressive, regional, North/South Korea-related, gender-related, generational, class-related, or otherwise sensitive expressions to explain Korean internet culture and real usage context.
Where appropriate, strong or sensitive expressions may be labeled with spiciness, sensitivity, tone, region, or usage notes.
Explaining an expression does not mean that we endorse or encourage the use of that expression, discrimination, hate, harassment, violence, or illegal conduct.
8. AI-Assisted and Editorial Images
Most or all images displayed in the Service may be AI-assisted, AI-generated, or human-edited editorial images.
These images are intended to convey the mood, meme context, or cultural feel of a word. They do not necessarily depict real people, real events, or real places.
We may provide icons, tooltips, descriptions, or other labels indicating that an image is an AI-assisted/editorial image.
9. Intellectual Property and Sharing
The Service, Content, data structures, editorial copy, word cards, images, UI, logos, brand names, Glowy character, designs, code, and databases are owned by us or the relevant rights holders.
You may not commercially copy, distribute, transmit, display, sell, resell, create derivative works from, database, or use Service Content to develop a competing service without our prior written permission.
Personal, non-commercial sharing on social media, link sharing, and sharing of word cards are allowed, provided that you do not remove or misleadingly alter source attribution, branding, watermarks, links, or Hanglow marks.
You may not use the Glowy character, Hanglow/한글로 brand assets, or word card designs as official assets or mascots of another product, service, brand, app, account, or community.
10. Advertising and Affiliate Links
The Service may display advertising through Google AdSense, Kakao AdFit, or other advertising networks.
The Service may include affiliate links through Coupang Partners, Amazon Associates, Naver Shopping Connect, MarppleShop, or other affiliate programs.
If you click an affiliate link or purchase a product or service through such a link, we may receive a commission or other compensation. As an Amazon Associate, we may earn from qualifying purchases when Amazon links are included.
Affiliate links and ads are monetization methods for operating the Service. We are not the seller, manufacturer, shipper, or guarantor of external products or services. Purchases, payments, shipping, exchanges, refunds, customer support, and privacy practices on external sites are governed by the terms and policies of those external sites.
We try to avoid placing monetization in contexts that are sensitive, tragic, hateful, violent, sexually exploitative, or politically inappropriate.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service may use third-party services such as Clerk, Convex, Vercel, PostHog, Sentry, Google, Kakao, Coupang, Amazon, NAVER, MarppleShop, email/domain providers, and AI image or content tools.
External services and websites are governed by their own terms, privacy policies, payment terms, delivery terms, refund policies, and security practices. We are not responsible for the acts, failures, content, or privacy practices of third-party services unless caused by our willful misconduct or gross negligence.
12. Analytics, Error Monitoring, and Optional Session Recording
We may use analytics and error-monitoring tools to improve service stability, performance, usability, security, and bug fixing.
We may use cookieless product analytics to measure page views, page-leave and session-duration events, scroll-depth measurement, and manually defined events. See the Privacy Policy for details about analytics and error-monitoring data handling.
Optional analytics features that require browser storage, account identification, automatic capture, session recording, or surveys are used only with separate consent. Essential cookies and session information may still be necessary for login and security.
13. Account Restrictions and Deletion
If you violate these Terms or applicable law, we may restrict features, suspend access, or delete your account.
You may request account deletion at any time using the methods we provide or by contacting us. When an account is deleted, personal information and account-based data may be deleted, anonymized, or retained according to our Privacy Policy.
14. Changes, Suspension, and Termination of the Service
We may change, suspend, or terminate all or part of the Service for service improvement, technical needs, security, legal compliance, third-party service failures, or operational reasons.
For free services, we are not responsible for compensation due to changes, suspension, or termination except where liability is required by applicable law.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
If we update these Terms, we may notify Users of the changes, posting date, and effective date through in-service notices, banners, account pages, email, or other appropriate methods.
Minor edits, typo corrections, link updates, or wording improvements that do not materially affect User rights or obligations may take effect immediately. Material changes that affect User rights or obligations will be announced with a reasonable advance notice period.
If you continue using the Service or account-based features after the effective date, you may be deemed to have accepted the updated Terms. Where applicable law requires separate consent, we may request separate consent.
16. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
We are not responsible for failure to provide the Service due to events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, network outages, cloud/authentication/analytics/advertising/affiliate service failures, or other force majeure events.
We are not responsible for disruptions, account misuse, information leakage, or losses caused by User fault.
We are not responsible for information, products, services, or failures provided by external advertisers, affiliates, sellers, platforms, authentication providers, analytics providers, or hosting providers.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for our willful misconduct or gross negligence.
17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea.
If a dispute arises between you and us, both parties will first try to resolve it in good faith. If the dispute cannot be resolved through discussion, the court with jurisdiction under applicable law will be the court of first instance.
18. Language
The Korean version of these Terms is the original version. The English version is provided for convenience. If there is any inconsistency between the Korean and English versions, the Korean version will prevail to the extent permitted by applicable law.
